Municipal elections in Benevento. The mayor of Benevento Clemente Mastella, leader of “We Campanians” (a movement with which he supported the governor of Campania Vincenzo De Luca in the regional elections), is carrying forward his six civic lists, determined to re-present himself as mayor in the next municipal elections.
After having obtained the support of the Deluchian area, keeping faith with the pact made in the regional elections, Mastella now witnesses the withdrawal of Rosetta DeStasio, candidate for mayor of the center-right, without Forza Italia which had already decided to support the former Keeper of the Seals by presenting itself with a civic list without the official symbol of the party.
"My candidacy for the office of Mayor, proposed by the civic associations Benevento Libera and Citta' Nuova - De Stasio writes in a note - was immediately supported and shared by the League and then, on June 9th and officially, by Fratelli d'Italia. The following day, in thanking those who had proposed my candidacy and those who supported it, I made an explicit opening to Forza Italia and declared that the project was to reconstitute a center-right coalition in Benevento, absent for 15 years.
The local representatives of Forza Italia, with the support of Fulvio Martusciello, have subsequently always maintained that they did not agree with my name, going so far as to state 'with Mastella or Perifano, but never with De Stasio'”. The 'resistance' of the centre-right coalition has foundered with the resignation of the local leaders of the Benevento League in contrast with the actions of the regional secretary Valentino Grant, so much so that some exponents who have left, while declaring themselves faithful to Salvini's League, will present themselves in a centre-right civic list allied with Mastella.
On the other side Luigi Diego Periphan he is the candidate of the centre-left, deprived of the Deluchian area and of an important piece for the left that will instead support Angelo Moretti, candidate for mayor of Benevento with the Arco coalition and supported by Civico 22, Europa Verde – Verdi, Rifondazione Comunista, PER le Persone and La Comunita'-Benevento.
Finally, on the candidacy front, there is the candidacy of Antonio Del Mese, candidate for mayor of Carlo Calenda's Azione who is aiming at the undecided.
