He had about a litre of GBL, the so-called 'date rape drug'.
For this reason, the TV host and actor was arrested yesterday for possession of narcotics for the purpose of dealing Ciro Di Maio, 46 years old, on the orders of the Milan prosecutor on duty Leonardo Lesti in the investigations of the Mobile team. The substance was seized. On his personal website it is written that Di Maio “since 2009 he has been the face of the Marcopolo channel for which he curates and hosts the successful television program 'Diario Di Viaggio' filmed in 30 different countries on 5 continents”.
The arrest is part of the investigations into a wider investigation by the Flying Squad, which began months ago and already during the lockdown period, into the spread in private drug parties, including GBL, or gamma-butyrolactone (a colorless liquid that has effects similar to barbiturates and can be mixed with water or other drinks).
Polaria spotted a suspicious package at Fiumicino Airport and investigators followed the delivery to the driver's home.

Initially, the 46-year-old allegedly said he had nothing to do with that shipment, but then explained that it was for him because, according to him, he is a consumer of that substance. It seems that another quantity of the same substance was found in Ciro Di Maio's house. Furthermore, Di Maio had reportedly already been arrested several months ago because he had four liters of GBL sent from China using the same system.
From one liter of GBL you get about 1400 doses. The drug, which is sold legally in Holland, had been sent, together with the vials for the doses, to the home of the driver, but the address of the recipient, as far as we know, contained different personal details. The arrest will have to be validated by the investigating judge who will also decide on the precautionary measure.
The host's website states that the 46 year old, born in Naples, was "sent for various programs” TV and “created and hosted” several “television products: from reports and magazine programs in the studio on cooking, fashion, design, art and photography”. And again: “His background also includes participations as an actor in fiction and TV films such as 'Le tre rose di Eva 3', 'Un Medico In Famiglia 9', 'Un posto al sole', 'Padri e figli'”. He made his debut, we read further, “with Raffaella Carra' in 1988 in 'Carramba che fortuna!'”.
