The Carabinieri of the Varcaturo Station arrested Guido Russo, an 82-year-old from Pozzuoli, for illegal possession of a clandestine weapon and illicit possession of ammunition.
The soldiers – engaged in a service aimed at checking regularly registered weapons at the homes of their legitimate owners – visited the elderly man.
During the routine service, however, the Carabinieri noticed the man's agitation and decided to investigate further. A perfectly functioning 7,65 caliber semi-automatic pistol with an illegible serial number and 9 bullets inside the magazine was found and seized. Next to the weapon - stored on a piece of furniture in the living room - there were also 442 cartridges of various calibers that had never been declared.

At that point, the Carabinieri also seized as a precaution the two rifles that the 2-year-old was legally holding.
The elderly man was placed under house arrest awaiting trial while the gun will be subjected to ballistic tests to verify its possible use in crimes or bloodshed.
