Campania. There are currently no positive cases of Covid among the 87 Afghans who are in the Covid Residence of the Ospedale del Mare in Naples which has been reopened to welcome them and where another 40 arrivals from Afghanistan are expected soon, in a facility that has about 170 places.

Today, ASL Napoli 1 began the analysis with swabs and general anamnesis of the Afghans who arrived from Kabul as part of the initial reception organized by the Campania Region, which will also subject the Afghan refugees to vaccination against Covid.

Today the reception also involved children, to whom the Campania Civil Protection and the ASL brought toys, as well as clothes and underwear for everyone. For the end of the quarantine, the Immigration Councilor Mario Morcone emphasizes to ANSA: “I am receiving very qualified availability these days to welcome Afghans, from the Community of Sant'Egidio to other high quality structures. I am rediscovering an Italy that does not hold back and knows how to do solidarity as it should be done, I am very hopeful that this operation that will involve 2500-3000 people in Italy will not be a problem”.

Meanwhile, the Municipalities are also moving and are ready to welcome and integrate the Afghans when their quarantine in Ponticelli, which lasts ten days, ends. The Municipality of Naples is reactivating the “Napoli Citta' Rifugio” network, established in 2018 for a four-year period and the councilor for social policies Donatella Chiodo has already sent a plan of the Municipality to the Prefecture: “We are waiting for a roundtable to be convened in the Prefecture – he explains – also because several parties are ready to give their contribution but we think that a control room is needed from the governing body on the territory for coordinated interventions”.

“Naples, city of refuge” It is a network that involves entities such as the Federico II and Orientale universities, the Santobono-Pausillipon and Betania hospitals, the Community of Sant'Egidio and the Methodist Church of Naples, the GVC Onlus and works on actions to strengthen the paths of social and cultural integration, acquisition of linguistic skills and work and social abilities, with the aim of promoting the stabilization of refugees in Italy.

Naples is then ready to offer its places in the Sprar network, as are other municipalities such as San Giorgio a Cremano, from where the mayor Zinno had already announced that he has “free spaces within its own SAI project, the second largest in Campania. We are, therefore, ready to include collaborators of Italian missions in this project, providing adequate hospitality for Afghan refugees, at the moment without additional costs for public finances, pending a possible and specific expansion of the SAI program decided by the Ministry.

Since our project has already hosted former Afghan collaborators of the Italian armed forces in the past, this will be a further step to guarantee in the near future reception and integration to women and men who are currently fleeing their country".
