Cell phones hidden in some cells of Carinola prison: the authors reported.

The Penitentiary Police found and seized four cell phones that had been hidden in some cells of the prison carinola ; the devices, introduced illegally, had been hidden in the televisions by the inmates, who were reported.

Among the cell phones found was a smartphone with two SIM cards; the Penitentiary police also found rudimentary battery chargers. The search activity was reported by Donato Capece, general secretary of the Autonomous Union of Penitentiary Police (Sappe), who expresses “appreciation for the operation carried out by the prison officers, who continue to work with great attention and professionalism, even without the aid of adequate means; the police officers must be recognized with a deserved compensation”.

Capece then raises the alarm on the phenomenon of the introduction of cell phones and drugs into penitentiaries, both for adults and minors, at a time already complicated by the suspension of visits with family members due to the pandemic; “a worrying and increasing phenomenon – says the trade unionist – as demonstrated by the kidnapping of Carinola and the various attempts, foiled by the Penitentiary Police throughout Italy, to hide drugs and cell phones and then introduce them into prisons. The high number of drug addicts obviously attracts the interest of drug dealers, who try to transform detention into a business. For these reasons, the Department of Penitentiary Administration has ordered the intensification of controls by the Penitentiary Police in all prisons” concludes Capece.

The Regional Secretary also intervened on the matter Osapp Campania, Vincent Palmieri: “The prison police employed in the surveillance service, once again and in other circumstances, has demonstrated a sense of duty in carrying out this delicate task to prevent the easy introduction of objects and substances not permitted by law and regulation that could compromise the safety of people, disturb order and jeopardize their security, never lowering their guard in implementing all those measures aimed at preventing the commission of crimes, despite the difficult conditions that the entire system and everything in it is going through in this post-pandemic period.

To the operating personnel, men and women of the Penitentiary Police, goes all our esteem and our personal thanks, despite all the difficulties, as a union we will continue to do the impossible to contribute to improving the work system in the interest of all, urging the leaders of the DAP to put in place greater attention also with respect to the future assignment of Policemen in a penitentiary structure such as that of Carinola, embedded in a neighboring territory and a social fabric with a high criminal intensity where the culture of illegality reigns”.
