These are the measures adopted at the end of the Provincial Committee for Public Order and Safety held this morning at the Prefecture of Caserta and urgently convened after the death, on the night of Saturday 29 August, of 18-year-old Gennaro Leone, who died from a stab wound to the leg that severed his femoral artery. The blow was struck during a fight that broke out in Piazza Correra, the very centre of Caserta and the heart of the nightlife, by a 19-year-old from Caivano, who was arrested a few hours after the fact and admitted to stabbing Leone.

"I didn't want to kill him" the 19-year-old defended himself in front of the prosecutor of Santa Maria Capua Vetere Chiara Esposito and the carabinieri. Among the measures that will be adopted immediately is the reiteration by the mayor of CASERTA Carlo Marino of the mayoral ordinances "aimed at further limiting - explains a note from the prefecture led by Raffaele Ruberto - the consumption of alcohol and to better and more rigorously regulate the exercise of commercial activities in places of movida".

Already after a Committee for public order and safety held last June, again for fights and injuries that occurred during the Caserta nightlife, the mayor of Caserta had issued an anti-alcohol ordinance, which remained in force until July 31. Among the other solutions identified by today's Committee, there is the establishment of a fixed surveillance post, by the Caserta Municipal Police, in Piazza Dante, during the hours of greatest influx, while "the control of the territory by the Police Forces, while continuing to be carried out in a dynamic form, that is with mobile patrols, will be increased and more oriented towards patrolling the streets most affected by the evening attendance of the clubs. The control will also be carried out with the help of special anti-drug units as well as administrative and health police".

Finally, the use of the Daspo instrument will be expanded and reintroduced, "against individuals who are responsible for violent acts, even attempted ones. The identification of specific services and the quantification of personnel units to be employed will be agreed in detail in a Technical Table, which will be held at the Police Headquarters, with representatives of the State Police Forces and the Municipal Police of Caserta" concludes the note.
