Colapesce performs at the Ancient Arsenal of the Amalfi Republic. The play "Colapesce: Beyond the Legend" will be performed tomorrow. Three performances are scheduled, every hour starting at 8:00 PM.
The first testimony of the Legend of Niccolò Pesce, called Colapesce, dates back to the 12th century: a Franco-Provençal poet tells the adventures of a certain Nichola who lived in the sea, like a fish. Since then, the story of Nicola (called Cola) has been told and illustrated in many ways, especially thanks to oral tradition, passed from mouth to mouth, and has been listened to by young and old. Today, this enigmatic character is still talked about and there are those who remember him, through songs, as in the case of Baraonna. To demonstrate how much his figure is still alive, the quote by Jules Verne in "Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea".
Furthermore, references to this myth are also present in international films such as Marvel's "Aquaman" or the new Disney film "Luca", soon to be released and set in Italy. The theatrical transposition on stage in Amalfi was born from an idea by Pietro Pignatelli and Alessandro D'Auria, with the writing by Angelo Ruta, the direction by Pietro Pignatelli with the protagonist played by Alessandro D'Auria.
Colapesce recalls the important bond that exists not only between Southern Italy and the Mediterranean, but also between the human being and his environment, his essence. So the transformation into fish is an allegory of man who descends from the marine world to complete his evolution.
