There is still a blood emergency in Naples and Campania, with very serious inconvenience for thalassemic patients who are thus sent home without receiving the necessary transfusions due to the blood banks now being empty.

Thus a representation of thalassemic patients turned to the Regional Councillor of Europa Verde Francesco Emilio Borrelli and to the radio host Gianni Simioli so that an appeal is launched. The Sistra (Transfusion Services Information System) bulletin board shows a shortage of 650 units throughout the country, a worrying sign of the difficulties that also affect the regions that, normally, manage to make excess supplies available to compensate for the shortages.

“With the covid emergency, blood donations have significantly decreased but in reality our region has always recorded a much lower number of donations compared to other territories – Borrelli and Simioli declared. We very often receive appeals, which we then share, to donate. But what is really needed is for blood donation to become a healthy and regular habit, we must not wait for emergencies to do it”.

“Donate for thalassemics, who need transfusions every 1-20 days, donate for those who suffer accidents, do it for emergencies, do it for others, do it for yourself. With a quarter of an hour of your time you can save a life.”

This is the appeal of Borrelli and Simioli who share and relaunch the appeal of Dr. Silvia Costantini of the microcythemia department of the Cardarelli hospital in Naples: "There is an urgent need for blood, group zero, at the Cardarelli - says the doctor - whoever can come and donate. There is a serious situation for all the sick and for those who live with transfusions like our thalassemic patients. The invitation to everyone is therefore to schedule a donation as soon as possible to address the shortages".
