Portici. The Five Star Movement continues its inspections of abandoned structures owned by the municipality of Portici.

In recent months, the council group has extensively documented the state of some municipal properties reduced to ruins despite the millions of euros spent over the years, with the clumsy attempt to recover the buildings. One of these, whose legal case is long and complex, is the Ex Area Kerasav of Portici.

Back in 1997, the Municipality purchased the structure for 13 billion of the old lire, but a judicial storm subsequently annulled the purchase. The structure in question has remained at the center of political laxity and in fact, in a state of abandonment and degradation, as documented by the 5 Star Movement.

“This majority, in 2018, with resolution no. 30 of 17/05/2018 voted to renounce the recovery action of the 13 billion spent in 1997, therefore it confirmed that purchase despite the fact that in 2006 the prefecture had communicated the cancellation of the resolution that sanctioned the purchase – explains Alessandro Caramiello, M5S group leader -. With ruling no. 5346 of 23/05/2019 the structure returned to the availability of the Municipality. What the idea of this administration is today, is not given to know”.

In fact, the Municipality of Portici owns the Ex Area Kerasav which is currently an enormous open-air ruin for which there does not appear to be any future planning, nor the objective of making the structure available to citizens.

“At the moment we do not know what the intention of the Municipality is – continues Caramiello – we cannot understand what action will be introduced for the former Kerasav: perhaps it will have to be put up for auction? Perhaps they want to make it a shopping center as it would seem from the modification of the strategic orientation document? This last option, if it were true, we are against because it would destroy the trade in the city center, which is already dying today.

Instead, we could focus on the initial idea, on the Golden Mile pact, on the consortium with other municipalities, on the tourist districts, use part of the area as a park and ride so as to create parking spaces and finally talk about Smart City and eco-sustainable transport”.
