AIFA, weekly prescriptions of monoclonal antibodies to Covid patients continue to increase.

Between August 20 and 26, there were 505, compared to 389 in the previous seven days, equal to a 30% increase in a week. This is what the 21st Report on Monoclonal Antibodies for Covid-19 by the Italian Medicines Agency (AIFA) highlights, which shows that so far 7.961 patients have been registered in the monitoring registers for these drugs and have therefore received a dose.

In absolute terms, the regions that have dispensed the most are Lazio, Veneto and Tuscany, which have 'broken through' the thousand dose mark. Monoclonal antibodies are specific drugs against Covid-19, authorised on an emergency basis and also available in Italy since last March for particularly fragile people, with recent Sars-Cov-2 infection. Thanks to the increase in elderly and fragile people vaccinated, the weekly doses prescribed have dropped sharply since April: between 16 and 22 April, there were 945, while there were just 34 in the week from 25 June to XNUMX July.

However, from this moment on, their number has been constantly rising, in step with the number of infected people: there were 268 prescriptions from July 30 to August 5, 302 from August 5 to 12, 389 from August 13 to 19 and 505 from August 20 to 26. However, 198 healthcare facilities have prescribed them. In absolute terms, the regions that have dispensed the most so far are Lazio, Veneto and Tuscany, which have 'broken through' the thousand mark with 1.147, 1.091 and 1.014 respectively, followed by Campania (633) and Lombardy (567). Closing the ranking are the Autonomous Province of Trento (29), Molise (14) and PA of Bolzano (3).

The ratio of weekly prescriptions to new Covid diagnoses that occurred in the same period of time is still growing compared to the previous report: they were equal to 1,1% out of 45.630 new cases of infection, while they were 0,9% the previous week.
