Five Star Movement (M5S), fire in Sarno industrial area: "Environmental conditions must be monitored."
Deputy Virginia Villani, who immediately took action to get to the bottom of the origin of the fire and its causes, together with Regional Councilor Michele Cammarano launch an appeal: “We need more controls on compliance with the rules and against the wicked acts of those who want to poison our territory”.
"Once again the sky of the industrial area of Sarno is colored black, covered by a cloud that risks being harmful to the health of citizens. What is happening in this territory is unacceptable: while we wait for the Judiciary to take its course and find those responsible for this fire or ascertain its causes, we must ask ourselves who will save us from the pollution we are breathing in these hours. It is necessary to implement greater controls in the industrial area of Sarno: unprecedented environmental damage is being feared and the risk to the safety of the citizens of the district is too high. – declare the Deputy Villani and Councilor Cammarano - After yet another fire in the industrial area, following the one on March 12, 2020 at the PRT, it seems clear that the situation is degenerating. We must ensure that all activities in the area comply with the laws and parameters set out in the fire prevention regulations. Furthermore, it is necessary to implement the appropriate checks to ensure the safety of citizens and the protection of the environment”.
"The industrial area of Sarno is abandoned to itself and is a no man's land: here people do not live but survive among the miasmas that come from the storage site located in via Ingegno, the fires, the degradation and the illegal dumping of waste by uncivilized people! A decadent and dangerous scenario from an environmental point of view. In Sarno, the health of citizens has not been protected at all” – declare the two institutional representatives of the 5 Star Movement.
"We have already informed the Undersecretary of the Environment Ilaria Fontana about the problem and we have spoken with the police: we need to get to the bottom of it, if we want to save our Earth! We will not stand by and watch yet another act of environmental violence that is killing our territory. This is a battle that sees us as protagonists but it cannot be fought without the help of local instructions, to whom we ask to ensure more controls in this area. We could consider intensifying monitoring with the use of video surveillance cameras, with an increase in the number of men from voluntary bodies and environmental associations, such as environmental guards. To date, therefore, given the numerous reports that come from citizens, worried about their health, we ask once again what detection activities have been carried out following the fire of 12 March 2020 at the PRT and with what results and what urgent procedures are underway to determine an immediate remediation of the site in light of the worsening of the aforementioned environmental conditions”.
