They moved early in the morning and occupied an area of the “Fico Beach” di Massa Lubrense, in the Sorrento Peninsula. the problem of free beaches has been animating the inhabitants of the Coastal, increasingly exasperated by the recent increase in tariffs bathing facilities.

And since, say the promoters of the initiative, these beaches are increasingly being managed as regular concessions, depriving bathers of free access, they have decided to take action. They had announced it days ago by the environmentalist association The Great Wave and, with the slogan “He who makes Sardinian, the shark eats her. Let's take back the beaches” they had launched the proposal to occupy the free equipped beaches with towels and umbrellas.

An appeal not only supported by their members, but also by other groups and citizens, tired of finding, already in the morning, beaches occupied with sunbeds and umbrellas. “A warning to institutions and law enforcement to ensure daily checks and severe sanctions (up to the revocation of the concession) in case of irregularities” the movement underlines in a note and they let it be known that other citizens have joined. John of Prisco, of the association 'Let's take back Sorrento', informs that they will also occupy other beaches next week.

Laura Cuomo, president of the association La Grande Onda, states: "I am very satisfied with the significant participation and adhesion of people in the protest action in Massa Lubrense. We are increasingly convinced that the battle in defense of free beaches must be fought now, before it is too late. And if this battle to protect legality is fought by 'going down to the beach' - as we did today, perhaps for the first time in Italy - we will continue to do so, also because we are certain that we will find an ever-increasing number of people willing to do it with us and to replicate our example. We will not stop, not even in the summers to come, until it is clear to everyone that free beaches are untouchable".
