Naples. Writings and graffiti on the facade of the Church of Saints Cosma and Damiano in the historic center of Naples: citizens report the acts of vandalism.
Less than a year after the completion of the restoration of the monumental church of Largo Banchi Nuovi, the facade of the Church of Saints Cosma and Damiano has been covered in writings and graffiti. The restoration work, part of the "Great Project of the historic center of Naples" for the recovery and enhancement of the historic center of Naples, ended in October 2020 but vandals have already erased the traces of the restoration with writings and graffiti made with spray paint. The report came from some citizens to the Regional Councilor of Europa Verde Francesco Emilio Borrelli.
"A heritage of humanity left at the mercy of vandals, the uncivilized, the charlatans, the filthy. This is what our historic center is, this is what our city is now. And if this happens it is not because our city is 'richer' in uncivilized people than others, the seeds of wickedness and incivility have not been planted here, there is simply a lack of application of the rules and the rigidity of those who must supervise. Whoever will administer Naples from next autumn will have to above all defend our historical and cultural heritage from uncivilized madness by putting aside, forever, tolerance and permissiveness" said councilor Borrelli.
