With the money from the robbery he was treating himself to a luxury cruise in the Mediterranean.
There are two arrests for the armed robbery of an armored van that took place in Modena January 20, 2020. The operations to capture the two suspects - reveals the Modena prosecutor's office - were accelerated when investigators discovered that one of them was about to leave for a cruise in the Mediterranean, departing from Naples, which would have touched Spain and Malta. The Naples carabinieri stopped and arrested him shortly before the ship left the port.
Between yesterday and today, in Naples and in the Foggia area, the Carabinieri of the investigative unit of the provincial command of Modena, with the support of the Carabinieri of Naples and Foggia and the contribution of the special units, executed the order of precautionary custody in prison of the investigating judge of Modena, at the request of the Prosecutor's Office, against two suspects "serious suspects of the crimes of complicity in the armed robbery of the Coop Service company's armored van committed on January 20, 2020 outside the GrandEmilia shopping center in Modena, of illegal possession of firearms and receiving stolen goods", the Modena Prosecutor's Office itself announced.
That morning, a team from the private security firm Coop Service, tasked with collecting the mall's takings, was attacked by three robbers wearing balaclavas, who managed to take the money that the security guards were loading onto the armored vehicle, three bags for a total of 150 euros. They also took the 9mm Beretta of one of the security guards, who was threatened with a pump-action shotgun.

The driver of the armored vehicle was also under fire from the third robber, also with a shotgun. But, following the established protocol, he managed to put the vehicle in gear and escape, taking the armored vehicle away from the robbery site, thus saving the rest of the mall's takings. The three robbers fled in a white Alfa Romeo Giulietta, stolen a few days earlier. Immediately after the robbery, the carabinieri found the car: completely covered in white powder to erase fingerprints.
But the investigations of the Carabinieri of the Modena investigative unit, which began with a detailed inspection of the crime scene, have gradually tightened the circle. The investigators have reconstructed the route taken by the robbers, viewed numerous videos from surveillance cameras, conducted checks at motorway toll booths, analysed telephone records, thus collecting "sources of evidence integrating a platform of circumstantial evidence against at least two suspects considered by the investigating judge to be serious", underlines the Prosecutor's Office.
The Carabinieri reconstructed and documented the presence of the suspects on the day of the robbery and at least two inspections carried out in the days preceding the robbery, including a stakeout for the theft of the used car. Then another piece of the puzzle: on March 2, 2020, one of the two suspects was arrested red-handed by the Carabinieri of Turin.
He had fled a check by the Carabinieri, in his car the soldiers found bulletproof vests, gloves, shotguns and pump action rifles, ammunition, cloned license plates. And the investigations in his circle of relations led to the connection with the second man arrested today.
