Qualiano. Photo of percolate inside the ecological island of Qualiano, the mayor Raffaele From Leonardis clarifies the issue: “Last Sunday I was alerted to an article reporting leaks of alleged leachate inside the Qualiano ecological island. Already on Sunday afternoon I alerted the municipal technicians and representatives of Multiservizi. With them and the environmental councilor Elvira Di Nardo, on Monday we went to the site to understand the extent of what had been photographed”.
“It must be stated – he continues From Leonardis – that this administration in July 2018, with a council resolution, approved a project for the construction of a platform, dedicated to the transfer of urban waste between shuttle vehicles and vehicles that then transport the waste to the plants. Until then – as also reported in several news articles – the transfer of waste and the consequent possible loss of leachate occurred on the street and in the residential area, endangering the safety of citizens”.
“What was photographed inside the platform area would be a small leak of leachate coming from the press that contained unsorted waste awaiting transfer to the vehicle that then took care of delivering the waste to the final plant”, declares the mayor who reveals:
“In the platform – precisely for this reason – there are collection wells that, during the inspection with the technicians, we also took care of maintaining and cleaning. In those wells, water analyses are also carried out every six months, which have always given negative results.
“Furthermore, the stain seen in the photos does not represent the actual quantity of leachate. That stain – as per the technicians’ findings – is in fact affected by a large quantity of water that was thrown over the liquid. Even with the naked eye, different colour intensities can be distinguished, a sign of the presence of water”
“In conclusion – De Leonardis concludes – I asked all those who intervened on site, a technical report so that all the operations carried out are in the records. Records that will be available to anyone who wants to consult them”.
