Raid and ambushes in Torre Annunziata, Libera's SoS: "Enough alibis"

Torre Annunziata.  "The daily succession of criminal acts - dramatic and devastating - that take place in the streets show us a city now at the end of its social resistance, where security and liveability are particularly precarious. What is happening no longer leaves any alibi for the responsibilities of the institutions (the municipal administration first of all) but also of us citizens".

Don Ciro says so Cozzolino, referent of the Libera garrison in Torre Annunziata. The priest refers not only to the recent "stese" (raid with shots fired in the air) that have affected several neighborhoods of the city, especially those with a higher crime rate, but also to dramatic episodes such as the killing of Maurizio Cerrato, the father mortally wounded for having defended his daughter, who had a tire slashed on the car he had parked on the street in a space "occupied" with a chair.

"This unsustainable reality - continues the representative of Libera in Torre Annunziata - asks only one thing of us as a community: to abandon the do-goodism of indifference to make room for the determination to build a 'new Torre Annunziata', basing it on values ​​of justice and legality for the passionate and competent care of the common good".

Don Ciro Cozzolino's appeal comes on the thirty-seventh anniversary of the so-called "Sant'Alessandro massacre": on August 26, 1984, a commando composed of fourteen hitmen opened fire in a fishermen's club in Torre Annunziata also frequented by members of the Gionta clan. Eight people were killed, while seven were injured.

"We are aware - concludes the prelate - that, alone, we cannot do anything to transform agony into hope. Hence our heartfelt appeal - to everyone and to social forces - to step out of themselves, out of their own certainties and out of every form of corporatism for the defense of privileges. Walking and acting together is necessary for the life of the city and its citizens! We are here".
