Eighteen performances, including 4 national premieres, an international production and 4 proposals by young authors. This is the incursion of contemporary dance by Ra.ID Festivals, staged between September and October in two contexts of undoubted charm and historical value at the Monumental Cloister of S. Chiara and the Palazzo Ducale in Solofra (AV).
The inter-regional review, organised under the patronage of the Municipality of solofra and which enjoys recognition from the Ministry of Culture, was born with the idea of creating a significant event around contemporary and research dance, helping to stimulate new ideas through a network and to offer different experiences, with great attention to creating new segments of the public.
Big changes await the new edition just around the corner. After a year full of challenges, the Festival offers important innovations that aim to broaden the offer to an audience that has grown over the years. In particular, it pays attention to the relationship between artists, spectators and critics and proposes itself to the audience by adding three new sections to the canonical program: “We are Raid”, “Dance in video” and “We critics/We public”.
The first project is an invitation to artists to make video-performative incursions into the places of the historic center of Solofra.
The second is a video-dance section from which the best videos will be selected by Ra.Id's partner festivals: the now historic Linea D'Ombra film festival in Salerno, the Movimentale festival and Cam Cam/Dance for camera, Movimento Danza's under-35 dance video award.
The third section is intended as a meeting between young critics in training and the public, which for each event aims to promote discussion on the shows represented.
THE OPENING
The Festival kicks off on Wednesday 1 September with three shows from 20pm at the Chiostro di S. Chiara in via Regina Margherita. It starts with “Over Under” by DanceHaus Company Junior, an ensemble entirely made up of Under 35s that looks at talents who have the opportunity to work in choreographic creation and research with renowned guest artists for two years. For Ra.ID, the choreographer and founder of the Company, Matteo Bittante, returns to reflect on the themes dear to him, of nature and creation, human and artistic, and the great challenge of living creatively today. He chooses to play and have his performers play with the objects on stage, mixing meanings and signifiers. A game made of metamorphosis, an arcane “round dance” capable of suggesting visual landscapes that are never static but in continuous evolution.
Later, at 20.45 pm the same stage will welcome Susan Kempster in “Mother”. A new production will be on stage, an intergenerational duet between the 61-year-old Australian dancer (who has danced in companies in: Tokyo, Sydney, New York and Madrid. Since 97 she has lived in Barcelona where she is active as both a teacher and choreographer) and the young William James, aka JJ (19). Through steps, jumps and movements the two seek a creative answer to: how can the dynamics of an adult woman and a young man allow this narration between mother and son? What happens to the perception of these two very different bodies, sharing the space, if their roles are fluid, exchanged, and the perception altered? The first evening ends with “Thread” produced by the Borderline Danza Company, founded and directed since 1998 by the dancer and choreographer Claudio Malangone, with choreography by Susan Kempster.
Connected to each other (Thread means thread) the dancers find flow as a group while maintaining individuality. The group dances the metaphor of how everyone is connected and interdependent. The steps, the interweavings, the cuts and the connections speak of shared stories, of when life flows fast and when it stops. With grace and humor, the performance uses restriction to find freedom. The show was born from an artistic residency held in August in Vallo della Lucania at the Teatro Leo De Berardinis thanks to the availability of the Municipality.
The billboard Ra.ID Festival continues at the Chiostro di S. Chiara in via Regina Margherita on September 10 with “Kigal” performed by Cantiere Danza” by Hilde Grella; followed by a BorderlineDanza production, “DependEsports” by and with Antonio Formisano. On the 12th, space will be given first to “Let me survive” staged by Compagnia Interno 5 by Antonello Tudisco and then to “Bluebell_clean it or leave it” produced by Cornelia performing arts by and with Francesco Russo. For the month of October, the festival will move to Palazzo Ducale Orsini in Piazza S. Michele 5 in Solofra. The space will be inaugurated on October 9st by Ambra Gatto Bergamasco and Viola Scaglione from Balletto Teatro di Torino in “Il cielo in una stanza”; later it will be the turn of “Puerpera” with Tiziana Petrone from Arte Danza Project. On Saturday 15th the stage hosts “Nullos”, a co-production of Déjà Donné and Borderline danza, followed by “Polvere”, a production of Movimento Danza by Gabriella Stazio. On the 16th there are two more events on the same evening: the curtain opens on “La Nona” performed by Flavia Bucciero, MovimentoInActor & CON.COR.DA and then on “Kurup” with Nicolas Grimaldi Capitello (Cornelia performing arts). The last double show is on the XNUMXth: the event ends with “Agua” performed by Salvatore Romania and Laura Odierna of Petranura Danza and “Eterna” a creation of the Oltrenotte company with Lucrezia Maimone.
