Over five hundred shorts and a hundred feature films from 27 countries around the world. The Villammare Festival Film&Friends, organized by Patron Alessandro Cocorullo with the artistic coordination of Axel Nobile and the cultural planning of Daria Scapitta, has seen, again this year, protagonists from the world of cinema and entertainment.
The film Destini by Luciano Luminelli was presented in national preview by the protagonist Sebastiano Somma who received the Lifetime Achievement Award. Together with him the director received the Italian Cinema Operators Award.
Sandra Milo moved the audience of Villammare by receiving the Icona Cinema Italia award. The actress presented her latest film Free -Liberi by Fabrizio Maria Cortese who was also present at the screening. “The recovery has been very slow like everything else. At least, the cinema hasn't closed... cinema is an extraordinary art loved by everyone, so it can't end and it can't even have a drop in blood pressure. Independent cinema is struggling, but there's a great desire to start again. We'll start again and we'll go far!”. SANDRA MILO.
Furthermore, during the evening ample space was given to great film and entertainment directors with the presence of the director and playwright Claudio Insegno who received the Social Award for Art and Culture from the actress and director Cinzia Mirabella. “I see the restart as difficult. Because even before, theater and cinema were not sailing in good waters, so it will be very difficult for it to resume at full capacity. We will have to start (almost) from scratch but with experience, fortunately, on our side. We will certainly have to encourage the viewer to participate actively and therefore try to produce more engaging shows and films. Independent cinema is the best way to express one's art. There are no superstructures or impositions from a major, for a director it is the best way to create a style. These days we have many examples of independent cinema but in my opinion, at least in Italy, they do not have the consideration they deserve”. CLAUDIO TEACHES
Following the presentation of the first Italian musical web series “Serenè”, the Festival welcomed Veronica Maya, who arrived on the coast of Villammare where she received the Best Revelation Actress Award in the film Magari Resto by Mario Parruccini. In addition, Vincenzo Incenzo thrilled the audience with his most beautiful songs written for great Italian artists. The final on Saturday 28 August featured Gilles Rocca who received the Best Director award for the short film in competition “Casting die-rector” and Cinzia Leone, an appreciated television and film actress who raised a smile with her overflowing comedy.
The 20th anniversary of the Festival was celebrated in conclusion by Piro Cilento Fireworks of Vibonati with a particularly effective pyromusical show, a tribute to the Festival with music, fireworks and the cinematic magic of their reflection in the sea.
Also this year SHINEMA, the Italian platform for the distribution of independent cinema by Dina Ariniello, had its own section of awards dedicated to strictly independent products. The out of competition award went to Serenè, a 10-episode TV series written, directed and interpreted by the Neapolitan Brando Improta. Serené is a modern and surreal fable in which the narration develops in the style of the musical films of the 60s.
La jury, this year for feature films was composed of: David Warren, Alessandro Fabbri, Laura Colella, Giuseppe Cozzolino, Emanuela Ponzano and Vince Tempera.
