Ischia. Operation “Mare Sicuro 19” ended on September 2021th. In accordance with the directives issued by the General Command and under the coordination of the Campania Maritime Directorate, the operation was mainly aimed at preventing the safe performance of all recreational and commercial activities, as well as promoting and monitoring the safe performance of activities related to the use of the sea and the coasts during the summer season through a specific program of prevention, surveillance and repression of any illegal conduct.

Prior to the launch of Operation “Mare Sicuro 2021” and compatibly with the contingent needs connected to the national epidemiological emergency, particular attention was paid to the prevention and protection of human life at sea, the safety of navigation and the protection of the marine environment and fish resources in an area of significant value such as that of the Marine Protected Area of the Kingdom of Neptune.

The operational phase was dedicated to the completion of scheduled missions through the use of operational components which involved the use of 5 naval units and 2 inflatable boats.
During these activities, the operations “Free Beaches” and “Free Waters” were carried out with the aim of protecting the integrity of the maritime state property.

Priority was given to the checks to verify the presence, suitability and efficiency of life-saving equipment and safety equipment on board pleasure craft. In addition, constant checks were carried out to combat the phenomenon of navigation and anchoring within the marine protected areas and, in particular, in those integral reserve zones.

Particular attention was paid to checks on vessels navigating close to the coast, in order to prevent and repress imprudent and illicit behaviour, also in consideration of the significant presence of recreational boats in the island's waters.

Among the most significant activities, it is also worth mentioning the use of personnel from the 2nd Sub Nucleus of the Coast Guard, in collaboration with personnel from the Ischia Coast Guard, which led to the removal/recovery of the so-called "ghost nets".

With regard to SAR activities, it is believed that the constant presence at sea of naval vessels of the Corps in surveillance service and thanks to the specific training and dedication of all personnel has allowed us to offer an operational response, in terms of search and rescue at sea, of absolute importance; in particular, the total of assistance and rescue interventions is approximately 20, specifically 18 boats and 77 people saved.

In addition, it is necessary to highlight the significant effort in terms of use of resources made in all the ports of the maritime district of Ischia in order to ensure the constant presence of personnel during the embarkation and disembarkation operations of passengers and vehicles in the ports of the island.

The action was aimed at ensuring an increase in safety standards,
minimizing the risk of accidents and incidents, with particular reference to navigation and port safety. In this sense, during the 2021 season the port and extra-port traffic plan in the Port of Ischia was confirmed and which allowed a significant improvement in the conditions of passenger embarkation and disembarkation, thanks to the valuable collaboration of the Municipal Police of Ischia, all the other Police Forces and the shipping companies.

In summary, the activity related to Mare Sicuro 2021 led to the following results:
 Checks carried out: 2.300
 Administrative reports issued: 253
 Crime reports written: 2
