On Saturday 4th September at 18pm, in Sarno, the first edition of “ The Book Workshop” September 2021. The Cloister of the Church of San Francesco D'Assisi will be transformed into a small cultural salon, with the participation of writers, teachers and religious people.
The presentation of the book - On the trail of Livingstone , history of Zambia and Malawi and of the Italians who travelled there; of Filippo Scammacca del Murgo. In the volume, the author, former Italian ambassador to Lusaka (Zambia) until 2019, narrates little-known facts and events, illustrated with unpublished period photos and maps.
It tells the story of the Italians who arrived in the region of Central Africa, discovered by Livingstone, where today Zambia and Malawi stand, two little-known, landlocked countries and former British colonies that became independent in 1964. Many Italians have worked there and still do their work today, but the history of these countries and the work of our fellow countrymen - aid workers, religious workers, engineers, technicians and many others - is largely immersed in oblivion.
The presentation will be attended by the author, the mayor of Sarno, Giuseppe Canfora, Don Roberto Farruggio, Alfredo Scavone, Rosa Maria Grillo, Nicola Bottiglieri and Cleopatra M. Chibomba, English language teacher at L' Alternativa Cooperativa Sociale. Moderated by Professor Vincenzo Salerno. The royalties from the book – Infinito Edizioni, 224 pages, 16 euros, preface by Elisabetta Belloni – will be donated to the Mtendere missionary hospital in Chirundu on the Zambezi, run by the Sisters of Charity.
