Casal di Principe. Tension over the demolition of the illegal building on Via Ancona, the police convinced the tenants to leave the illegal building.

After a long and difficult mediation, the State Police officials convinced the residents of the building to leave. The bulldozer sent by the Santa Maria Capua Vetere Prosecutor's Office will be put into operation shortly, when the last of the furniture will be removed. One of the tenants, a father of two children, left the house built with "enormous sacrifices" in tears. "Where will we go to live? And who knows," he said.

This morning the bulldozers arrived escorted by the police. There were moments of tension with some of the occupants of the building who barricaded themselves inside and did not want to come out. Police and carabinieri have sealed off the area and have sought mediation to avoid clearing the area by force. Yesterday afternoon there had been a protest by citizens and associations, this morning instead the resignation of the mayor Renato Natale.

The municipal administration had unsuccessfully asked the Prosecutor's Office for a 100-day extension to convert a confiscated property into a social house, so as to be able to host the two families with four minors who live in that building.

State Police officials are trying to convince the tenants to leave the building, so they can begin the demolition operations ordered by the Santa Maria Capua Vetere Prosecutor's Office; a woman has complained of illness.

Many citizens came to the site to show solidarity, but the carabinieri and police "sealed" the entrances by placing the vans for the transport of the agents at an angle. There are eight residents in the building in total, two couples with two small children each. "They got married recently and moved into the house when it wasn't finished yet," says a woman about one of the resident couples. "They were finishing the house slowly because they didn't have much money and did odd jobs. Now what will happen to them?"
