San Cipriano Picentino – The military personnel of the San Cipriano Picentino Forestry Carabinieri Station, during their regular patrol of the territory and environmental protection, were alerted by a citizen regarding the presence of a large bird found in the garden of his home.

The military promptly went to the “Ponte Molinello” road in the municipality of San Cipriano Picentino (SA) to verify the report.

Once on site, and accompanied by the reporting citizen, they found themselves faced with a Grey Heron (Ardea Cinerea) which showed signs of good vitality but with an evident disarticulation of the right leg most likely due to a fracture with consequent difficulty in taking flight.

The military took action to ensure the first aid to the bird and arrange its recovery. The veterinary medical staff of the ASL intervened promptly, verified the precarious conditions of the bird and arranged for the transport of the specimen to the CRAS, the “Frullone” wildlife recovery center in Naples.

The bird was then handed over to the expert hands of the center's veterinarians who immediately provided him with all the necessary care.
