Venice Fire Department: Staff shortages to be resolved by next year.

Prisco: Specific additional compensation? We're ready, but an agreement is needed.

Venice - "By next year, any staffing shortages within the Fire Brigade will be addressed by filling positions advertised for the Venice office through the 'Internal selection procedure for the filling of 45 positions for access to the role of engine room crew of the National Corps, based on qualifications and successful completion of a professional training course for the acquisition of a deck nautical license.'" This was stated by Undersecretary of the Interior, Emanuele Prisco, in response to questions from Ettore Rosato (Azione) regarding various issues facing the Venice Fire Brigade. Specifically, the parliamentarian asked about staffing, the "restoration of vessels currently idled," and the allocation of "extraordinary resources, opening a dedicated spending chapter for the lagoon fire brigade, given the unique and fragile nature of the Venetian context." A question also addressed risk and inconvenience compensation for the lagoon fire service, and whether a regulatory amendment is being considered to establish its amount and stability over time. For the watercraft used in the Venice lagoon, Prisco explained that the service…

Trains, the Calpazio-Alpine Bridge, Ministry of Transport: "Work will last for years, but not with games."

STRATEGIC BUT COMPLEX WORKS, FOR THIS REASON THEY MUST BE STOPPED

Venice – The planned works on the Ponte nelle Alpi-Calalzo railway line "represent a strategic investment for the safety and efficiency of service in a highly significant mountain area." The planned works include tunnel and slope maintenance, bridge and viaduct safety improvements, the redevelopment of the Ponte nelle Alpi and Longarone stations, and the upgrade of command, control, and signaling systems. For these reasons, "in the coming years," the line "will be affected by several scheduled closures necessary to allow for the completion of" the "important infrastructure works." This was reported yesterday to the Chamber of Deputies by Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport, Tullio Ferrante, specifying that the works, "which also include works related to the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, will involve service suspensions during certain periods, but will not affect the months in which the Olympic competitions will be held, thus ensuring full accessibility during the event." Specifically, the outages are scheduled this year from September 14th to December 14th, in 2026 from March 29th to June 6th and from September 13th to December 12th, in 2027 from April 4th to June 12th…

Venice: Pickpockets report citizens who report them

In Venice, suspected pickpockets are reporting citizens who, using smartphones, identify them and alert tourists to their presence.

Venice – A paradoxical incident is rocking the lagoon city: suspected pickpockets have reported several residents who, armed with cell phones and a sense of civic duty, identify them, film them, and alert tourists by shouting their presence. The charges? Crimes such as stalking, for having followed or publicly ridiculed them. The news, reported by local newspapers, was confirmed by Mayor Luigi Brugnaro and the commander of the local police, Marco Agostini. The position of the local police: "Unfortunately, we can't do anything," Agostini admitted, "because there are no laws nationwide that allow us to apprehend those who steal or pickpocket. I've always said that citizens shouldn't replace law enforcement, and this is the result." The commander reiterated the risk of escalation: without adequate legal instruments, the line separating legitimate reporting from harassment can become blurred and end up backfiring on those seeking to defend the community. “Lady Pickpocket”: “It’s pure madness.” Monica Poli, known as “Lady Pickpocket,” famous for her catchphrase in English, reacted harshly…
