Carinaro. Four firefighting teams have been working since 2:00 PM to put out the fire in the warehouse of a company that produces spare parts for cars in the ASI area of Carinaro, on the border between the provinces of Caserta and Naples.
Reinforcements also arrived from Naples, but there are currently no reports of anyone involved. The burning material created a dense black cloud , visible from Naples.
The blaze affected New Technology and Service , which produces and assembles auto parts. There were no injuries, and it appears that plastic material caught fire outside the factory, producing a dense, black cloud visible for several dozen kilometers.
The acrid smell of smoke also reached the areas of Orta di Atella, Succivo, Sant'Arpino and even Marcianise.
Tommaso Barbato , mayor of the city of Teverola, said: "As many of you know by now, a large fire has broken out in the industrial area. A huge black cloud is clearly visible throughout the city and surrounding municipalities. The cause of the fire is currently unknown, so residents are urged to keep doors and windows closed and to wear masks if you are outdoors."
Carinaro's colleague, Nicola Affinito , instead said that "in light of the fire that broke out in a factory in the industrial area, despite the timely intervention of the firefighters, the population is urged to stay indoors, close doors and windows and not turn on air conditioning".
"We have alerted ARPAC to immediately carry out the necessary air quality checks. This is a fire of apocalyptic proportions. It is unacceptable that such environmental tragedies can still occur in 2021 ," said Europa Verde regional councilor Francesco Emilio Borrelli.
