Caserta. Italia Nostra firmly opposes the decision of the Caserta Municipal Administration to demolish the historic pine-lined avenue in Via Unità Italiana, for the redevelopment of the pedestrian area.
The felling of trees represents an act of incivility because it compromises the environmental and landscape quality of that place made unique (genius loci) by the ancient trees that contribute to ensuring sustainability in its various dimensions.
A massive, expensive and very unpopular demolition campaign is looming. Italia Nostra calls for maximum transparency on this creeping operation and the legitimate participation of citizens, neighborhood committees and associations to know what the global strategy is for the entire city, the lots where short-term interventions are planned and the costs of this massive demolition campaign.
Italia Nostra asks that a consultation table be opened immediately and that all decisions on collective assets be taken with absolute transparency of administrative acts and with the participation of citizens, which has been denied up to now.
