Caserta. He ran over and killed the gas station attendant to escape without paying for the refueling: the truck driver arrested.
On Saturday Montella, 30 years old from Frignano in the province of Caserta, ended up in prison on charges of voluntary homicide, aggravated by futile motives, for having run over and killed Dara Marc Gambo, a 50 year old originally from Burkina Faso, an employee of a petrol station in Casaluce.
The episode occurred on June 28th. According to the investigations coordinated by the Prosecutor's Office of Naples North, Montella, while driving an articulated lorry inside a service station, intentionally hit the employee.
The Carabinieri of the Operational Section of the Operational Nucleus of the Carabinieri Company of Aversa and of the Carabinieri Station of Teverola, within the framework of a complex investigation coordinated by the Public Prosecutor's Office at the Court of Naples North, have carried out the'order of precautionary custody in prison, issued by the investigating judge at the Court of Naples North at the request of the Public Prosecutor's Office.
According to what was reconstructed by the investigators - also thanks to the video surveillance images, the thirty-year-old truck driver from Frignano, at around 2am on 28 June, hit the gas station employee voluntarily, causing it to fall first after hitting it with the part front of the truck, then continued on, running over it. The victim died a few hours later in hospital, following the injuries sustained.
The investigation, which consisted of wiretapping, interviewing witnesses and acquiring images from the gas station's video surveillance cameras, allowed the episode to be reconstructed, despite the truck driver's attempts to mislead the investigators, who claimed not to have noticed the accident.
The truck driver, according to the reconstruction by the investigators, had a violent argument with the gas station employee. The subject of the argument was the difficulty in refueling, due to the truck driver's credit card not working. The victim had tried to write down the truck's license plate and at that point Montella, resentful, had hit him. The truck driver, at that point, had first stopped the vehicle and then started again, running over the worker.
The following moments for the investigators would highlight the seriousness of the conduct and the indifference towards the victim. The 50-year-old was pulled out from under the truck to be left a meter further on lying on the ground, while the suspect first contacted the owner of the gas station and only then called 118, minimizing the incident so much that the paramedics had assigned a green code to the intervention.
The engineering consultancy on the dynamics of the accident, the results of the autopsy on the victim's body and the transcription of the phone call to 118 were the decisive elements of the investigation for the request for the arrest of the 30-year-old from Frignano, who ended up in prison this morning.
