Vesuvius Cycle Path, The Piranha of Ideas: "The perfect crime, Torre is killed with a 'green' alibi."

The start of work to convert the disused Torre-Cancello railway into a cycle path leads us to note once again that while the other important ports in Southern Italy are competing to grab the 2 billion euros arriving for their development (including 250 million just for the construction of the last mile of rail or road), the port of Torre Annunziata, which (even though both were no longer in operation) already had a railway station inside and was located along a line capable of connecting it with the interports of Nola and Marcianise, is being deprived of a development perspective to make room in the Oplonti territory for a cycle path that will end among the hydrocarbon tanks and this just when the possibility of restoring the pre-existing infrastructure has matured!

The Starita and then Ascione Administrations spoke of this work as an opportunity for the City but the truth is that in all these years they have wickedly endorsed a project that, in order to bring some relative benefit to some small towns in the Vesuvian hinterland (and, therefore, to favor the electoral campaign of some local lord), will make (intentionally?) Torre Annunziata the only city in Campania with a commercial port without rail connections, thus also sabotaging the attempt to bring passenger service to the port.

Our politicians did not budge even when environmentalist associations, Green Italia and FIAB (Italian Federation of Friends of the Bicycle), criticized the crazy idea of eliminating a railway to make a cycle path in its place with an excessive cost per km (seven times more than the average) and with little ecological benefit, and pointed out the disadvantages for Torre Annunziata and therefore proposed changes to the project: those who, more than anyone else, should have defended us did not do so!
