Captivating, innovative, authentic and eco-sustainable. These are the main characteristics that the new souvenir of the Macellum of Pozzuoli (Naples), archaeological site dating back to the 1st century AD, also known as Temple of Serapis, for which a contest open to planners, architects, engineers, designers and students has just been announced.
Promoted by ATI Macellum, in collaboration with ADI – Association for Industrial Design – Campania delegation, the call is aimed at designing a souvenir that integrates craftsmanship and creativity, past, identity and tradition.
To participate in the competition, which is part of the initiatives aimed at enhancing the Pozzuoli monument with enormous archaeological, historical and iconographic value, but also scientific, given that for centuries it has been the measurer of bradyseism, the slow raising and lowering of the ground, which characterizes the Phlegraean area, there is time until November 20, 2021 (here is the link to download the announcement and the form to participate https://bit.ly/bando-adi).
You can join, either individually or in a group, by sending a maximum of two projects, in both cases. The souvenir can include various production techniques and the use of different materials (metal, ceramic, wood, plastics, paper) and must be suitable for mass reproduction to respond to a market cost accessible to a large public.
The works received will be judged, anonymously, by a commission composed of experts, professionals and teachers belonging to the ATI Macellum (made up of the company La Terra dei Miti srl, the cultural associations Amartea and Aporema onlus and the company Graficamente srl, assigned to the management of the Macellum), to ADI Campania and to the Archaeological Park of the Campi Flegrei.
The competition includes a merit ranking and the awarding of a prize of 1.000 euros to the first place winner.
Expected for the 5th December to the Mostra d'Oltremare of Naples, as part of the event Arkeda, dedicated to architecture and design, both the proclamation and the awarding of the winner as well as an exhibition of all the participating projects.
