Campania. 3 arrested, 4 investigated and 1.247 people checked. 8 fines issued, 47 security services and 18 stations manned; 4 services on board trains for a total of 5 trains checked. These are the results of the eighth day of extraordinary checks "Rail Safe Day" that took place yesterday, September 15, in the main stations and other sites throughout the region.
The operation, which involved over 90 men and women of the Railway Police of the Polfer Department of Naples, was ordered by the Railway Police Service as part of a national plan of extraordinary checks, with the aim of combating anomalous behaviour in the railway sector such as crossing tracks, boarding or disembarking from moving trains, undue presence on the railway line, crossing closed or moving level crossings which often cause railway accidents.
The Polfer operators, during the control activities in the Naples Central railway station, were assisted by two units of the Guardia di Finanza's Canine Emergency Group Squad
In particular, among those arrested, a 48-year-old Neapolitan for aggravated theft in the Naples Central station. The man was stopped by the agents after stealing 14 vinyl records, worth 433,00 euros, inside a commercial establishment in the railway station. From the checks carried out in the databases, the 48-year-old was found to be under house arrest, therefore he was reported for evasion.
Also in Naples, the officers, during a check in the parking area adjacent to the railway yard, recognized, in a 46-year-old Neapolitan with a criminal record, the perpetrator of a theft of a cell phone that had occurred a few days earlier to the detriment of a young man from Aosta. The man, invited to the police station, first took off his mask, throwing it at the officers and then refused to follow them. He was arrested for resisting and insulting a public official. Tried with a summary trial, he was sentenced to 10 months and the precautionary measure of a ban on residing in the city of Naples.
A 45-year-old woman from Biella was arrested for improper robbery. The woman, after stealing some food from a supermarket inside the station, reacted by kicking and punching the owner of the business who tried to stop her. Stopped by the officers, she was taken to the police station awaiting a direct trial.
The checks were carried out in collaboration with railway personnel from the local Corporate Protection Department who, through the use of a cutting-edge video surveillance system, monitored the flow of travellers with extreme efficiency and safety.
