Presented on new single hospital on the Sorrento Peninsula: over 200 rooms, paid rooms for wealthy patients, windows overlooking the sea, underground parking and pergolas with lemon trees, high-level specialist departments and a maternal and child area “worthy of civilized countries”.

“I asked the technicians to build a functional hospital, done well and quickly. I'll be breathing hard anyway.”

These are some of the characteristics of the hospital structure whose feasibility project was presented by the President of the Campania Region, Vincenzo De Luca, in Piano di Sorrento. A work that the governor himself has defined as "historic", awaited for decades not only by residents, but also by the many holidaymakers and tourists who crowd the Coastal.

“It was not a given and it is not a given, in a country like Italy, to find someone who keeps his word, I had given my word and – he began – I kept my word and I am proud of this. In Italy the distance between the things that are said and the things that are done is stellar. The amount of chatter and bullshit that we hear is shocking”.

The project for the hospital was born, the president summed up, in a very particular moment “while we were crucified by Covid” and then “three months since the end of the administration of healthcare after ten years”.

“It was also difficult to find the resources, we had allocated 60 million, now it has already reached 75, but – stressed – That's fine because it's a historic work that is done once every century and a half. There are no problems with resources, what is needed will be given."

De Luca used words of thanks for the mayors of the area who “they are almost an exception in the Campania region: they are good, concrete, united, they love the territory and they don't bother us, or rather, they keep their breath down our necks but not for local squabbles but for the interest of their communities. If – has explained – if we had mayors who argued among themselves we would have wasted time, we would have decided the same, but it is not the same thing to find mayors who have respect for the territory and show loyalty among themselves. The problem is not having a hospital under your home, but having a beautiful, functional hospital that saves your life if you have serious problems”.

"Obviously, I hope to come and inaugurate it. It's true that I'm on the De Mita-Napolitano line and that in a quarter of a century you'll still find me here, but let's not exaggerate, I'd like to come and inaugurate it in a suitable time", concluded De Luca.
