From his passion for footwear in Naples to his trip to America driven by the desire to explore new challenges, from his life stories in Hollywood to his return to Italy, the result of an exceptional intuition to establish production in Florence, from the risk of failure to his rebirth in his workshop up to his definitive consecration and entrepreneurial success: “Salvatore – The Shoemaker of Dreams” shows the mystery and charm of a complex figure, an icon of Italian and world fashion who has never lost sight of the importance of family ties.

The project came to life in 2017 when, inspired by reading the autobiography of the Italian shoemaker and entrepreneur, director Luca Guadagnino contacted the family.

A three-year journey in which the Salvatore Ferragamo Foundation and Museum worked alongside the director and screenwriter Dana Thomas, providing historical expertise and knowledge.

The Ferragamo family gave Guadagnino access to the brand's archives, which contained interviews, anecdotes and unpublished information, as well as the latest and precious testimonies of Wanda Miletti, his wife. This is my life's work: learning to make perfect shoes, refusing to put my name on those that aren't. So please, beyond the story of the barefoot and ignorant boy who became a famous shoemaker, focus your attention on the pleasure that comes from walking well.“. This concludes the preface of Salvatore Ferragamo’s autobiography that pushed Luca Guadagnino to approach this project.

The director said: “What is genius? How is a system born, be it cinema or fashion? And how does the furious obsession of a constant search for ideas and creation marry with tradition and family values? Salvatore Ferragamo (1898-1960), protagonist and witness of the XNUMXth century, is the answer to these questions.".
