Ecuador, gang clash in prison: at least 116 dead

The death toll from a real guerrilla war between rival gangs which broke out in a Guayaquil prison, in Ecuador.

Local police officials said it was the worst prison violence in the country's history. At least five inmates were beheaded in clashes that broke out on Tuesday, while others were brutally killed. The police commander Fausto Goodano He said the prisoners also threw grenades.

According to the BBC, it took 400 police officers to regain control of the prison, which houses inmates linked to international drug trafficking gangs.
