Miasma and waste emergency in Giugliano and the northern area of Naples: ARPAC begins extraordinary inspections.

In response to the emergency of miasmas affecting Giugliano in Campania and a series of neighboring municipalities, in particular Parete, Qualiano and Villaricca, especially during the night hours, the provincial departments of Arpac of Naples and Caserta, with the coordination of the technical management, have started an extraordinary campaign of controls.

The aim, as explained in a note, is to "provide useful technical elements to local authorities and support the identification of the sources of the phenomenon, as well as to indicate technical-managerial solutions aimed at overcoming critical issues".
Teams of technicians from the two departments, in synergy with the police forces present in the area, are carrying out targeted inspections at plants/sites (both public and private) and also carrying out investigative investigations in the area.

In collaboration with the municipal administration of Qualiano, a mobile laboratory for monitoring air quality is about to be activated at the local ecological island, located as a measuring point for a series of significant parameters relating to air pollution.

The installation of passive samplers (radielli) has been arranged in the municipality of Parete, useful for the research of specific air pollutants; furthermore, in this municipality a weather station will soon be positioned to identify the prevailing wind regime in correspondence with the reports, simultaneously distributing, to a sample of the population, odor detection sheets to evaluate the perception of the phenomenon by the residents.

An air quality monitoring station is already operational in Giugliano, at the Stir plant in the Asi area, and the results can be used to integrate the investigation elements.
