Torre Annunziata. Femicide in Lecce: the trial for Salvatore Carfora, the 38-year-old from Torre Annunziata who killed his ex-girlfriend Sonia Di Maggio last February, begins.
Carfora had asked to be judged with an abbreviated trial, following the request for immediate trial, but the GIP of Lecce had rejected the request. This morning, the trial began before the judges of the Court of Assizes of Lecce, the 38-year-old from Oplonti was not present in the courtroom.
On February 29, Carfora killed the 31-year-old woman from Rimini, his ex-girlfriend, with XNUMX stab wounds, in Specchia Gallone, a hamlet of the municipality of Minervino in the province of Lecce. He stabbed her from behind while Sonia Di Maggio was returning home with her new partner with whom she had gone out shopping. Then he ran away on foot.
Carfora is accused of aggravated murder and stalking, the hearing took place in the bunker courtroom of the Lecce prison, before the judges of the Court of Assizes. The civil parties are the woman's family members.
At the request of the victim's family lawyer, Vincenzo Blandolino, the Court ordered the hearing to be adjourned until November 16 to allow the younger sister of the 29-year-old to also appear in court as a civil party. According to what was reconstructed by investigators during the investigation, the defendant killed his ex-girlfriend after seeing her with her new partner and after sending her several death messages on her cell phone.
Carfora – arrested a few hours after the crime in Otranto, while he was trying to reach a train on foot to leave Salento – had had a tormented relationship with the girl. Simona Di Maggio had then decided to move from Rimini to Lecce to follow her new partner. But Carfora had identified her and reached her to kill her.
The man, with a criminal record and believed to be close to the Gallo-Limelli-Vangone clan of Torre Annunziata and Boscotrecase, had also been hospitalized in the psychiatric hospital of Aversa from where he was discharged in June 2020.
The prosecutor who coordinated the investigations into the femicide of Sonia Di Maggio had asked and obtained, in recent months, that he be judged with immediate trial. Today the trial began and will continue on November 26th.
