Nin the morning of September 15th a welcome visit to the MATT – Terzigno Territorial Archaeological Museumof the Director Gabriel Zuchtriegel, chosen this year by Minister Dario Franceschini to lead the Pompeii Archaeological Park.
Welcomed by the Mayor of Terzigno, Francesco Ranieri, the Director was able to visit the municipal building and the rooms of the archaeological exhibition for the first time.Pompeii beyond the walls – the villas of Terzigno in the shadow of Vesuvius".
The frescoes and the finds of the MATT were highly appreciated by the Director of Pompeii. Particular interest, during the visit, was given to Room 13 with the frescoes of the Triclinium reconstructed in Room 4.
Director Zuchtriegel, who has been director of the Archaeological Park of Paestum and Velia since 2015, has immediately paid particular attention to the archaeological reality of the minor sites around the prestigious site of Pompeii and wanted to visit the MATT to also get to know this young museum reality of the Municipality of Terzigno.
During the meeting, Mayor Ranieri illustrated to Zuchtriegel, the youngest director at the helm of an Italian museum, the activities implemented by the Municipal Administration, in particular the creation of the Ranieri quarry Archaeological Geological Naturalistic Park, as well as the establishment of the Local Tourism Center of the Vesuvian Area and those to present a candidacy, of the cities adhering to the Center, as a “UNESCO Creative City”.
The foundations were also laid to strengthen the fruitful collaboration already existing between the Archaeological Park of Pompeii and the Matt of Terzigno. In particular, a further expansion of the Matt of Terzigno was discussed, after the arrival of the Triclinium, with four other large frescoes and numerous precious objects including the silver found in Villa 2.
All the administrative procedures have now begun to further strengthen the presence of frescoes and objects that will soon be able to return to Terzigno.
