Monday, September 6th marks the sixth anniversary of the death of Genny Cesarano, young innocent victim of the Camorra.
Also this year, within the PITER project - Paths of innovative territorial inclusion and empowerment - the commitment to honor his memory is renewed by involving the minors of the populous Rione Sanità who are participating in a series of initiatives carried out together with the association “A People on the Move for Genny Lives”.
We will start with a visit to the museum of Capodimonte of Naples, Friday 3 September, where children will have the opportunity to admire the works dedicated to Genny by the Neapolitan artist Paul La Motta: it is a polyptych composed of four portraits and a terracotta bust which have the particularity of having 5 letters on the back which, when put together, form the name Genny.
The artist, who will accompany and illustrate the permanent exhibition, personally met the young man Genny Cesarano when he was still attending the ceramics workshop at the“Pope John XXIII” School, in via Cagnazzi, in the Rione Sanità.
As La Motta himself says, Genny loved working with clay and had a strong manual ability, proving to be among the most receptive and creative of the group of students in the laboratory, to the point that together they managed to create even complex works. One day, the artist also decided to portray him, highlighting his lively and alert look typical of many kids his age with many dreams in the drawer that however were shattered on that cursed day in September, under the gunfire of some of his peers who wanted to assert supremacy over the territory.
The works dedicated to the seventeen-year-old Genny Cesarano can currently be admired by visiting the exhibition entitled “Paolo La Motta. Capodimonte meets Healthcare”, Edited by Sylvain Bellenger and Maria Tamajo ContariniThe works on display consist of 23 paintings and 9 sculptures depicting the faces of young people from Stella and Sanità districts of Naples, among which stands out a portrait of a young Maradona to whom the artist wanted to dedicate a special tribute.
