Saint Antimo. The Court of Appeal of Naples has rejected the appeal presented by the former mayor of Sant'Antimo Aurelio Russo against the decision of the Court of Naples North which on 22 September 2020 declared him ineligible.
The second-instance judges also rejected the request presented by another former administrator of the same municipality, Teresa Pedata, former cemetery assessor. Accepting the appeal of the Ministry of the Interior, Russo, Pedata and Ivana Tarantino (also a former administrator of Sant'Antimo) were ineligible for two rounds in the elections for the Chamber of Deputies, the Senate, the European Parliament and, in Campania, in the regional, provincial, municipal and district elections starting from the date of dissolution of the municipality of Sant'Antimo (decided due to infiltration by organized crime).
Russo, Pedata and Tarantino were also ordered to pay the costs. The judging panel of Naples North, on September 22, 2020, as also supported by the Ministry of the Interior, held the former mayor and the former councilors responsible for not having countered the infiltration of the Camorra in the municipality. The City Council of Sant'Antimo was dissolved by the Council of Ministers on March 16, 2020 on the proposal of the Minister of the Interior Luciana Lamorgese.
