The Poetry Recital 'Invitation to the Plural' at Castel dell'Ovo

It will be the magnificent scenery of Castel dell'Ovo in Naples to host this year's poetry recital “Invitation to the plural“, organized byInstituto Cervantes and by the Department of Culture of the Municipality of Naples to celebrate the European Day of Languages.

Friday September 24st, starting at 18 pm, seven Italian and Spanish poets will take turns reading their works to celebrate the linguistic variety and cultural diversity of Italy and Spain.

After Paris (2019) and Berlin (2020), the international event promoted by the Instituto Cervantes – which this year celebrates 30 years of activity (1991-2021) – arrives in Naples and in addition to the recital entitled “Invito al plurale” it will also host in the morning the meeting of the bodies representing the co-official languages ​​of the Spanish State. The initiative promotes linguistic diversity in Europe, through coordinated strategies and collaborative projects between the various institutions.

The protagonists of the event will be Italian poets and writers Frank Buffoni, Claudio Pennino e Maurizio Mattiuzza and the Spaniards Dawn Cid, Beatriz Chivite, Rocio Acebal e Jordi Valls.

The meeting – which will also have simultaneous translation – will be attended by the heads of the Instituto Cervantes of both countries. The recital, free of charge until all available seats are filled, with reservations to be requested by email at cultnap@cervantes.es, will also be broadcast in streaming on the Cervantes YouTube channel. Guaranteeing a global diffusion of the initiative, through its branches present in 86 cities in 45 countries around the world.

The European Day of Languages ​​(September 26) is an initiative born in 2001 by the European Commission and the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, representing 800 million citizens of 47 countries. It takes place every year as a tribute to the linguistic diversity of the continent. In addition to the 24 official languages, around 60 regional and minority languages ​​are spoken in the European Union, without considering those spoken by people from other continents.

The Instituto Cervantes participates in this celebration with the aim of raising awareness among citizens by highlighting the great linguistic variety of our continent. First of all through Castilian and the co-official Spanish languages ​​– Galician, Catalan and Basque – in dialogue with Italian and Neapolitan.
