The Italian national volleyball team is back as European champion after a 16-year absence. In the final, Fefé De Giorgi's Azzurri defeated Slovenia 3-2 (22-25, 25-20, 20-25, 25-20, 15-11) and regained a title they hadn't won since 2005. This victory doubles the one achieved by the women's national team earlier this month.

The Italian Magic Nights continue. There is indeed something magical in this summer that is drawing to a close, which will end on September 22 with the autumn equinox. Italian sport continues to provide emotions, but above all triumphs, at every latitude and in every sporting discipline: from football to volleyball (after the victory of the girls, the men's national team is also European champion), from cycling to tennis.

This is the seventh continental title for Italy, who last triumphed in 2005 and climbs to the top of Europe exactly two weeks after the triumph of the women's national team. For the Azzurri it was the eleventh final for the gold in their history, eight years after the last one played in Copenhagen in 2013. With tonight's match Italy has already booked its pass to next year's World Championships, scheduled in Russia from 26 August to 11 September. In the afternoon, hosts Poland won the bronze medal by beating Serbia 3-0, for the second consecutive third place at continental level.
