Milano. The 'lioness' had to surrender to cancer: Martina Luoni, the young woman who became a testimonial for Lombardy in the fight against Covid, died this morning.
The announcement on his Instagram profile has collected hundreds of comments and messages of condolence. “Today the lioness has lost her battle, now her compass will take her hunting for new sunsets, the ones she has always dreamed of, always with a smile on her lips that no one will ever be able to turn off” reads the post with which the family announced the death of Martina Luoni, the girl from Solaro, in the Milan area, suffering from metastatic colon cancer, who had become a testimonial for the fight against Covid. “From today, anyone who looks at a sunset – we read further in the post, followed by hundreds of comments of condolence – will remember the lioness Martina”. In July, in a post written by her own hand, the 27-year-old had admitted that she was tired of fighting against her illness, “tired of being strong, tired of putting up with the pain and discomfort, tired of being called a lioness, tired… simply tired”. She had just started a new course of experimental treatments, “in two months we will see where it is taking us. In the meantime, I am here with 10 kilos less but with the desire to take back my life and my autonomy. We all know I'm going to win, right?!
The young woman had helped raise funds for people with the same illness as her over the years.
Martina Luoni was 27 years old and died of cancer after fighting the disease for three years. She had become famous for having spoken on her social profiles about the problems of cancer patients during the Covid pandemic, which has often slowed down the necessary treatments. His appeals had attracted the attention of the institutions, with the Lombardy region who had called her to act as a testimonial in the anti-Covid campaign. The funeral will be held on Thursday. Born in Solaro, in the hinterland north of Milan, she discovered she had colon cancer in 2018.
His name became known in 2020, when he posted a video on his Instagram profile: “Good morning everyone, for those who don’t know me, I’m Martina, I’m 26 years old and three years ago I was diagnosed with metastatic colon cancer. Today I’m here doing this Igtv to report the situation in Lombardy hospitals. I had been declared cured after various operations but in December 2019, after some checks, it emerged that the disease had not disappeared but that I had returned to work. In March, Covid exploded and the healthcare system began to suffer. Since then, I have been unable to have almost any specialist visits with my parents, because the sick are isolated. One hospital didn’t even take me into treatment.”
