With the cleaning of the island of Licosa, a charming little island, which takes its name from a mermaid, Puliamo il Mondo has started, the largest environmental volunteer campaign by Legambiente that will take place on September 24, 25 and 26 in many places in Campania with the aim of cleaning the streets, parks, gardens, squares, rivers and beaches of the cities. All the events will be organized in full compliance with the anti-covid regulations
The cleanup of Licosa Island in Cilento promoted in collaboration with Cilento and Vallo di Diano National Park, Sarim, Csv Sodalis and Municipality of Castellabate, saw the participation of dozens of volunteers who arrived on the island with boats made available by the Rosa dei Venti company, the historic Cilento boat "o megl amico" and "masaniello tourist". Bags filled containing mainly waste from fishing activities, polystyrene and lots of microplastic.
In Campania, according to the latest monitoring by Legambiente on 14 Campania beaches, over 9 pieces of waste of all kinds were found for every linear meter of beach. Plastic remains the most found material of beached waste. On about half of the beaches sampled, the percentage of plastic equals or exceeds 90% of the total waste monitored, while on 71% of the monitored beaches, disposable gloves, masks or other objects attributable to the Covid-19 health emergency were found.
And on Monday 20 September volunteers will be back in action at the beach of Baia for the Clean Up the World Sea edition initiative. Let's knock out climate change! The day will focus on the sea and the effects of climate change on it and will be divided into two parts: at 10.30 cleaning of the shoreline of the free beach of Baia, followed by cleaning of the seabed in zone A of the Underwater Park of Baia (Nymphaeum of Claudio). All this will be done with the support of expert divers. The initiative will be supported by the Master of judo and life Giovanni Maddaloni.
The initiative is promoted by Legambiente and the Madre association in collaboration with: Legambiente Città Flegrea and the archaeological park of the Campi Flegrei "Parco Sommerso di Baia WAU and the Municipality of Bacoli.
