Naples, Smi Campania.  "The lack of personnel of 118 in Naples and its province appears to be a structural problem that we want to remedy, putting a patch, replacing the emergency doctors with those of continuity of care. In this way, professionals from another medical sector are involved that is not appropriate for emergency interventions", So Luigi De Lucia, Regional Secretary of Campania of the Italian Doctors' Union in a statement.

“Lastly, there is the decision, in recent days, by the management of ASL Napoli 3 Sud to activate, with a service order, in the event of a red code, the use of doctors from the Continuity of Care in night shifts. This is a wrong solution, as it forces medical professionals who have neither the medical equipment nor the clinical expertise to intervene on patients in need of emergency/urgent medical interventions. In this way, patients in need of urgent interventions are put at risk and the doctors from the Continuity of Care are exposed to possible professional errors”.

“Why has the Territorial Emergency Service of 118 in Naples and its province been reduced to this size? asks the SMI union representative. For many years now, we have been working with few units, with a reduction in staff and resources. For this reason, we must take note of the changed health needs of the province of Naples and the Campania Region by reorganizing the entire 118 service.”, concludes De Lucia.
