At the Museo Campano in Capua on Friday 24 September, starting at 19.00:XNUMX pm, an event dedicated to the Fabula Atellana and the Teatro Comico Latino will take place.
The initiative, supported by the Teatro Pubblico Campano, is part of the program of the project “La Campania è Teatro, Danza e Musica”, conceived by the ARTEC companies (for the Theater) and Sistema MED (for music and dance) and realized through the virtuous use of funds allocated by the Campania Region and the MIC- Ministry of Culture with the active support of SCABEC – Società Campana Beni Culturali and Fondazione Campania dei Festival. For the occasion, an exhibition will be set up of a Teatrino Fliacico reconstructed on the model of some archaic vase paintings created by the set designer Francesco Felaco, and of a series of masks by Riccardo Ruggiano ranging from those of the Commedia Attica Nuova, with the fixed types that will then be borrowed from the Theater of Plautus and Terence, to the series of masks inspired by the Fabula Atellana created exclusively for the Compagnia La Mansarda by the late maestro Giancarlo Santelli.
It is interesting to know that the Museo Campano houses a series of statuettes and clay reliefs dating back to the 19,30th to the 24th century BC that are traced back to the four fixed types of the Fabula Atellana: Maccus, Pappus, Bucco and Dossennus. At 20.30:2004 pm, Prof. Massimo Santoro, head of the Classical Theatre Laboratory at the Manzoni High School in Caserta, will introduce a lectio brevis on Latin Theatre by Prof. Maria Luisa Chirico, Full Professor at the University of Campania “Luigi Vanvitelli”, as well as the theatrical show “Oscae Personae” created by Maurizio Azzurro, with dramaturgy by Roberta Sandias, which will be performed at the end of the evening. The overview of the programming of “La Campania è Teatro, Danza e Musica” with the mission of an initiative, so far unprecedented in Italy, thanks to the union and sharing of intent between institutions, businesses and workers, ends with “Oscae Personae/L'Evento” on stage on September XNUMX at the Museo Campano, starting at XNUMX:XNUMX pm. From the project “Maccus in Fabula”, which presents in the form of a conversation-show the summary of the path taken around a hypothesis of staging the Fabula Atellana, the show “Oscae Personae” comes to life and is being set up, which aims to be a real operation of re-theatricalization of this ancient form of masked theater. All the research and investigation work, both literary and iconographic, carried out from XNUMX to today, is distilled and transformed, while maintaining its essence intact, witnessed by the presence on stage of the masks as a scenographic element.
The Fabula Atellana, after a long philological investigation, is therefore proposed again in a new form, which does not betray its starting point, but translates it in a more contemporary key and suitable for the enjoyment of the public of today, while preserving its original nature of popular and farcical theater. On stage, three dramatic scores: the Postribolo, a hypothesis of rewriting on fragments of the homonymous fabula by Pomponio; a rewriting of the Casina by Plautus, his comedy with more Atellan contaminations; and finally “Velitationes” or a brief skirmish of insults between servants in the manner of the Fescennines. On stage: Maurizio Azzurro, Antonio Elia, Marcello Manzella and Giulia Navarra. Live music by Giovanni D'Ancicco. During the weekend, at the Teatro Ricciardi in Capua, Maurizio Azzurro will hold the introductory workshop “Masks in Latin and Greek Comic Theatre” reserved for 15 young student actors under 18.
