Naples. Unknown persons dismantled the orchard of the Viviani Park managed by the association N'Sea Yet. A complaint has been filed with the police.

“In the past few days, glue has been inserted into the padlock at the entrance to Via Girolamo Santacroce several times. Last week, they destroyed the books in the small library built by the La Locomotiva Onlus association. And last night, someone entered the orchard to dismantle the tool and compost area, whose pallets have been sown around the park” Giulia, an activist of the N'Sea Yet association that manages the public green area of Viviani park, told Dire.

“Since April we have been working on the construction of a “food forest”. We only plant fruit trees and aromatic plants. This morning I felt like I was dying. It was a blow to the heart to see the orchard reduced to this state,” explains Giulia, visibly affected by what happened. Unfortunately, it is not the first time that the park has suffered this type of aggression and the problem seems to be upstream and has to do with the management of the park.

“The guardians – which are part of the June 25 cooperative – they should be present and guard the park from opening to closing but in fact this is not the case. The park is opened by a custodian who stays only for the morning hours. Then, in the afternoon, the other custodian comes to close. And the closing always occurs half an hour before the actual scheduled time” the embittered activist says and continues: “the park is used as a transit route for cars and scooters for those who live near via Cupa Vecchia – where the other entrance to the park is located – but also by the custodians themselves in the afternoon.

The second entrance to the park has been open for months because the chain that was there was broken. The park is also closed on holidays because the cooperative does not pay its employees on those days”.

“In essence – Giulia concludes – the municipality pays a cooperative to pay employees who are supposed to open and supervise a park that is actually always open (from the secondary entrance) all day. There were also days when the park was not opened or days when they forgot to close it and the municipality promptly sent a letter proposing to give the keys to the citizens.

This meant that for a while the custodians were slightly more operational. The municipality also arranged for Napoli servizi to come once a week to clean the park. But this is not enough to keep it clean because uncivilized people frequent it assiduously”. N'Sea Yet activists are now preparing to file a complaint against unknown persons: "enough is enough".
