Napoli. The graffiti praising Luigi Caiafa, the 17-year-old robber from Forcella who was killed during a firefight with the police following an attempted robbery, have been removed.
The 'dedications' had appeared on the wall where a mural dedicated to Caiafa had previously been created in via Sedil Capuano but then removed at the request of the Prefect of Naples, after much pressure from the Regional Councilor of Europa Verde Francesco Emilio Borrelli. Borrelli himself, together with the activist of Europa Verde Enzo Vasquez, had reported the incident to the police commissioner and the prefect, asking for the immediate removal of the writings.
"We need to give a strong signal of legality and for this reason we had reported these writings, we thank you for the timely intervention. Now the message must be spread throughout the territory, starting from the Spanish Quarters where the mural and the altar for Ugo Russo are still there despite the TAR having expressed a favorable opinion on the removal.
What are you waiting for? We absolutely must prevent criminal organizations from making propaganda, instead we must replace the Camorra culture with that of legality, with the memory of the victims and heroes of our city. We will not lower our guard against the criminal challenge to the state that continues to create murals and illegal shrines, this is more than a promise.””- the words of Borrelli and Vaquez.
