Naples, the Piscinola multipurpose center, between degradation and dilapidation, a symbol of the abandonment of the suburbs

Napoli. A sports facility with a swimming pool built in 1980 with funds from the Cassa del Mezzogiorno and never used and which is now in a complete and disastrous state of abandonment with fields and spaces left to decay and vandalism, 'flying' electrical cables given that there is no connection to the electricity grid.

This is the reality (and history) of the Piscinola multipurpose center, documented with an inspection by the Regional Councilor of Europa Verde Francesco Emilio Borrelli accompanied by Fiorella Zabatta, national co-President of Europa Verde and the sports manager of Sole che Ride Francesca Imbaldi, which once again testifies to the abandonment of the suburbs.

Also through the testimony of some local associations that have taken to heart the events of the Multipurpose Centre, the Greens have documented how the structure is at least 3/4 completely abandoned and dilapidated with some municipal offices, which have no connection to electricity except through extension cords, which act as 'guardians' of the "Domenico Severino" Library present in the body of the building.

“It is yet another disgrace for our territory, yet another failure of the institutions that let structures and opportunities rot. The associations would like to be able to give new life to the Polifunzionale since Piscinola has no other structures, but the Municipality does not let them do it because it says there is no electricity. And can't a remedy be found for this? We have sent a note to clarify the issue.

The point is that structures like these can and must be used to create moments of aggregation among young people, to take children off the streets, to teach young minds discipline and rules. The new administration will have to take this into account and we will remind them of it.”– the words of Borrelli, Zabatta and Imbaldi.
