Naples, Bud Spencer's statue is looking for a home

In a sailor version, with a captain's cap with the visor pulled down over his eyes, his hands in his coat pockets and a bag on the ground. This is how Carlo Pedersosoli, aka Bud Spencer, was represented in the fiberglass sculpture by the Viareggio tank driver Fabrizio Galli who portrayed the Neapolitan actor as he appeared in the films “Bomber” and “They Call Me Bulldozer”.

In reality, the statue had already been made in 2019 on commission, but suddenly the client disappeared, as did the compensation agreed for Galli. “Not only did I never receive the money for a job commissioned to me, which cost me effort and commitment, but the statue had been placed by the administration in unsuitable places, so much so that the work was damaged over time, which is why I had to restore it and decided to give it a new look by repainting it entirely in blue.

Now it seems that the new administration is not very interested in the project and so Bud for now remains without a 'home'. Several people have come forward with proposals but everyone would like it without paying me anything but this is certainly not possible, my art is my job, it is what I earn my living with. It would be nice if the statue were placed in Naples, the city of Bud, with which in recent years, through Bud and De Crescenzo, I have established a special bond." – says Galli.

In fact, for the float artist from Viareggio, it is not the first time that his artistic path has crossed paths with that of illustrious Neapolitan figures. For the 2019 carnival, Galli created a float dedicated to the 'professor' Luciano De Crescenzo, a float whose theme was hugs, inspired by his own verses: "We are angels with only one wing. To fly, we need to stay embraced by our brother, to whom we lend our wing and from whom we take the other wing, necessary to fly."

"It would be really nice if the statue of Bud were installed in Naples, it would be the right recognition to a character, an actor, a man who has contributed to bringing so much prestige to our city. We are therefore preparing a crowdfunding campaign to be able to bring the statue of Bud, the good giant, here to Naples and that we will launch live on La Radiazza which will restart tomorrow." - commented the Regional Councilor of Europa Verde Francesco Emilio Borrelli and the radio host of La Radiazza Gianni Simioli.
