Naples. "He who loses his parents is an orphan, he who loses his spouse is a widower, but there is no word to describe a parent who loses a child."

The Archbishop of Naples said this through tears, Don Mimmo Battaglia, during the homily given at the funeral of the little Samuel, who died after falling from the third floor of his home. He was arrested for the little boy's death Mariano Cannio, 38 years old, domestic worker of the family.

Battaglia, with a broken voice and a tearful vowel, read a "letter to Samuele", described several times as "dear, sweet, little prince".

The funeral took place this morning in the Church of Santa Maria degli Angeli alle Croci, a few hundred meters from little Samuele's house. All the shops in the central Via Foria on both sides displayed white balloons as a sign of closeness to the Gargiulo family for the loss of little Samuele.

From the churchyard the bishop remembers the little one: Help us "to come out of this pain so great, so unknown that it can be scary." Thus said the Archbishop of Naples, Monsignor Battaglia, during the funeral of little Samuele. "We need you now, little prince - Msgr. Battaglia said again - and I'm sure that from where you are now you will continue to look at us, to smile at us, to love us."

"Now you'll have to show us how to laugh in this world."he continued "while we are still trying to find answers to so many questions, in this life that seems too gray and too dark without you".

For the bishop of Naples we must now have the strength to "To live this pain without letting it overwhelm us, so as not to lose ourselves, so as not to lose ourselves, so as not to continue to resist, to stand, and to move forward under this cross that seems too heavy. And you teach us, Samuel, that only love remains.". A long round of applause at the end of the homily.

Hundreds of white balloons were released as little Samuele's coffin exited the church of Santa Maria degli Angeli alle Croci, on Via Veterinaria. Then the funeral procession he walked through the streets of the neighborhood until he arrived in front of the building where the little boy lived with his family.
