Napoli. Under the Asse Mediano bridge that crosses the Don Guanella district in Miano, an illegal landfill has been created for some time now which (as a citizen reported to the Regional Councilor of Europa Verde Francesco Emilio Borrelli) cellar clearers, construction companies, tire dealers, fishmongers and traders use to dump bulky waste, household goods, pieces of furniture, waste material, tires, containers and more.
You arrive at night, far from prying eyes and ears, on a tricycle or a van, you approach one of the bridge pillars, you stop with the engine running so you can then quickly move away if necessary, you unload what needs to be unloaded and the crime is committed. A gesture as banal as it is simple and protected by the darkness and desolation of the chosen place that has caused the phenomenon to become dangerously more and more widespread.
“We are receiving reports of illegal dumping more and more frequently. This is very worrying, because despite the many awareness campaigns, there is still a very high rate of incivility and too many people who do not care about respecting the environment or even that of other citizens. It is a very important issue to address and on which serious countermeasures must be taken.
For the situation in Miano we have requested a clean-up intervention from Asia but it is absolutely necessary to install camera traps as in all the risk areas to identify and catch the polluters. It is equally necessary, and even more important, to provide for a reform of the regulations with a toughening of the punishments for those who illegally dump waste, evidently the sanctions now provided for do not represent a real deterrent.”– declared Borrelli.
