Naples. It was Ciappi Razzano, the baby's mother Samuel Gargiulo, with his testimony but above all with his memory to allow the investigators the sensational turning point in the investigations on death of the child who was thought to have fallen by himself from the third-floor balcony of the building overlooking Foria Street, late yesterday morning.

The Naples mobile squad, on the orders of the PM Barbara Aprea of prosecutor's office of Naples, has been placed under arrest Mariano Cannio, a 38-year-old suspected of crime. The man, who has mental problems, is a domestic worker, well-known in the area where he lives. He made partial admissions: he would have acted in a fit of rage. From what has been reconstructed, he had access to the homes of several families in the neighborhood who trusted him. He is described as a very closed person by nature. The man, who is currently being assisted byCourt-appointed attorney Carmen Moscarella, from Naples, will be questioned by the prosecutor on Monday: he was blocked at home a few hours after Samuele's death.

The statements of Samuele's mother, Ciappi Razzano, were decisive in turning the investigations around. Despite the shock and the fatigue due to her eighth month of pregnancy, the woman told the agents of the flying squad that Mariano Cannio was present at home – at the time of the tragic flight. Ciappi and her husband, Giuseppe Gargiulo, are a very close-knit and well-known couple in the Stella – San Carlo all'Arena neighborhood. The man runs several shops, one of which is in the same building where the family lives.

At the time of the tragedy, the little boy's mother had left the room where Samuele was with the man arrested today. Disbelief and amazement among the people of the neighborhood when the news spread: “You can't kill a child” a woman screams. Candles, white flowers and stuffed toys in via Foria in front of the building: the people of the neighborhood are shocked, speechless because the pain for such a death is too much “absurd and inconceivable.”

And now, after learning that there is a man arrested for murder, the astonishment of Naples and Neapolitans turns into anger. Anyone who passes in front of the building stops for a few minutes, makes the sign of the cross, looks up at that third-floor balcony. “It's too much pain – says an old woman – I can’t imagine the pain of the parents and the mother who is also pregnant. Poor woman.”

THE PAIN OF NAPLES AND THE NEAPOLITANS

Disbelief is the feeling associated with pain. “All we can do is pray for this poor young innocent soul who flew to heaven as a little angel,” says another woman. “I am Catholic but sometimes I wonder why nothing happens to criminals and then an innocent child has to die like this. I really don’t understand.”

Among the messages left with the flowers, one note reads: “Now you play with angels.” The coming and going of citizens of the neighborhood who want to leave their testimony of affection and closeness to the parents, known in the area, is incessant. Mothers who come here with their children to leave a flower or a message to say goodbye in their own way to little Samuele.

“As a mother I can't even imagine the pain of the mother of this little angel – says Anna, a young mother who arrived on site with her 8-year-old daughter – this morning it was my daughter who said to me 'Mom, let's go and bring a flower'.
